mon ciel préféré de 2021

Moved out in 2022, marking the beginning of my professional career.

In 2022, I realized several things:

  • I don’t mind TypeScript. I swear I’m not crazy. Despite initial skepticism from communities like HN and IRC, I found that I’d rather have four completed projects in TypeScript than none in Rust.
  • I don’t use my phone very often. Investing in a compact, decent camera covers my primary use for a smartphone, aside from calls and messages.
  • Working and socializing exclusively with people 15 to 20 years older than me has made me more mellow and less quick to judge. I’ve become more open-minded lately.
  • Goa is a lovely place. I might make it a point to visit annually.
  • I’m fond of India, with all its quirks. This year, more than most, I’ve learned to appreciate it for what it is and forgive it for what it is not.
  • The biggest boost to my confidence in speaking French was holding a conversation with a French person for over an hour at work.
  • My tattoo is awesome—minimal and discreet. Unlike most permanent decisions, I genuinely love it.
  • University wasn’t the best experience for me, and I’m glad it’s over. I might never pursue formal education again.
  • Writing letters to my future self has been the most effective way to reduce my worries and overthinking.
  • Getting braces was the right decision. Invisalign has made the process painless; I should have done it sooner.
  • I’m indifferent to my music taste; I can vibe with nearly anything and everything.
  • The #f1 community on libera.chat is the best place for quality Formula 1 discourse.
  • Ted Lasso is a joyous piece of entertainment.
  • I don’t find joy in video games as I used to, except for Starcraft II.
  • Long solitary walks are excellent for fostering creativity.
  • Chic coffee isn’t for me; my Nescafé sachets are perfectly sufficient.
  • Melatonin is amazing; a good night’s sleep is a solved problem.
  • I can do anything. This confidence comes from my accomplishments this year:
    • Moving halfway across the country for work, learning to cook well, and thriving.
    • Learning conversational French in under a year.
    • Building the ultra-low-latency WebRTC radio I’ve wanted since 2019.
    • Leading product development at my startup.
  • I’m not the biggest fan of Bangalore as a city and hope I don’t have to go there too often.
  • I should say yes to invitations and suggestions more often.
  • Good friends aren’t always good travel companions.

Following the advice of a close friend, I tried to produce more than I consume. As a result:

  • I read 7 books this year, all in French.
  • I wrote 8 blog posts.

If 2022 is any indication of what’s to come, my life is at the 15° mark of a tangent curve.
